Description
Saser Kangri — in full Saser Kangri I (7,672 m) — is the highest peak of the Saser Muztagh, the easternmost subrange of the Karakoram, and stands in Ladakh, India. It is often cited as the highest mountain lying entirely within India, which makes it a landmark in the country's climbing history. The Saser massif is actually a cluster of summits — Saser Kangri I through IV — rising between the Nubra Valley and the course of the Shyok River, a remote, high-desert and strategically sensitive region near the border. The first ascent of Saser Kangri I was made in 1973 by an Indian expedition (led by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police team) that boldly attacked from the east off the Shyok River — a line long thought nearly impossible because it repeatedly forded a river that swells and submerges the route in exactly the fine weather that suits climbing. Because it sits in an Inner Line zone near the Line of Control, climbing Saser Kangri demands an IMF permit, protected-area clearances and security coordination — so it remains a rare expedition objective rather than an ordinary trekking destination.

Routes
Jalur pendakian pertama 1973 — serangan dari sisi timur lewat Sungai Shyok
Ekspedisi tinggi serius di atas 7.000 m; gletser bercelah, salju-es, dan medan terpencilThe historic line that opened Saser Kangri I. The 1973 Indian expedition (led by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police team) deliberately abandoned the conventional Nubra Valley approach and attacked from the east off the Shyok River — a route long thought nearly impossible because it repeatedly fords a river that swells and submerges the trail in exactly the fine weather good for climbing. It became the highest first ascent then achieved by an Indian expedition, with summits reached on 5–7 June 1973. Because of the remoteness, altitude and sensitive border setting, the route demands full expedition logistics and an experienced team.

Pendakian gletser & salju kelas PD/AD pada ketinggian ekstremThe more accessible, historically populated side used for exploration of the Saser massif. The approach leaves the Nubra Valley (near Panamik/Tigur, ±3,050 m), treks to a base camp around 4,950 m at the snout of the Phukpoche Glacier, then sets high camps up the glacier system toward the summit ridge. Modern lines on this side include an attempt on the West Ridge of Saser Kangri I from the South Phukpoche Glacier. The whole area lies in an Inner Line zone near the Line of Control, requiring an IMF permit, protected-area clearances and security coordination.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Saser Kangri is not a peak for casual climbing vlogs — it is a high-altitude expedition objective in the remote, sensitive Eastern Karakoram. The footage and reports below span the whole Saser massif (peaks I–IV): the story of a disaster on the main summit, an official Indian Mountaineering Foundation webinar, Indian expedition footage, a short introductory film, and Piolets d'Or coverage of the neighbouring Saser Kangri II ascent.
