Description

The Sankwala Mountains are a range in Obanliku, Cross River State, in south-eastern Nigeria, lying south-east of the town of Obudu and north of the Okwangwo section of Cross River National Park. Their average elevation is around 1,800 m, giving them a cool climate unusual for Nigeria. On one of their ridges, the Oshie Ridge, sits the Obudu Plateau (also called the Obudu Cattle Ranch), whose peak reaches about 1,716 m and which is now home to the Obudu Mountain Resort. The area is famous for the Obudu cable car, one of the longest in Africa, the canopy walkway at the Becheve Nature Reserve, montane grasslands, and the annual Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race that climbs steeply up to the plateau. Activity here leans toward highland walking, birdwatching and mountain running rather than technical climbing.

Routes

Obudu Plateau: kereta gantung & jalur pendakian resor

Ringan-menengah, jalur dataran tinggi & canopy walk
Beberapa jam (kereta gantung + jalan kaki di plateau)

The main access to the Obudu Plateau (peak ~1,716 m on the Oshie Ridge) is via the Obudu cable car, one of Africa's longest, followed by walks across montane grassland and the canopy walkway at the Becheve Nature Reserve. It suits general visitors, with easy trails to the minor summits around the resort.

Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race (jalur lari gunung)

Berat, tanjakan curam hampir 800 m dari kaki ke Obudu Plateau
Lomba (waktu tempuh elite ~1 jam), ~11 km

An annual mountain-running route climbing about 11 km with nearly 800 m of gain from the foot of the range to the Obudu Plateau. Though staged as a race (once billed as one of the world's richest mountain races), the course shows just how steep the direct climb up to the plateau on the Oshie Ridge is.
