Description
Sakurajima (桜島, 'Cherry Blossom Island', 1,117 m) is an active stratovolcano in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan — formerly an island and now a peninsula after the great 1914 eruption's lava flows joined it to the Osumi mainland. It is the most active volcano in Japan, with explosive eruptions and ashfall in most years; its summit has three cones — Kita-dake, Naka-dake and the recently most active Minami-dake. Because of the volcanic danger, climbing to the summit and crater is strictly prohibited; visitors experience the mountain from the Yunohira Observatory — the closest permitted point (about 3 km from the crater) — and from coastal lava trails such as the Yogan Nagisa walk with its hot-spring footbath. Sakurajima is served by a 24-hour ferry from Kagoshima city and is known for onsen, the giant Sakurajima daikon radish and komikan oranges grown in its fertile volcanic soil. Its activity is closely monitored by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Routes
Jalur Lava Yogan Nagisa (溶岩なぎさ遊歩道)
SourceObservatorium Yunohira (湯之平展望所) — titik terdekat kawah
SourceClimbing Experiences
Because Sakurajima's summit and crater are closed to climbers, experiences center on observatories and coastal lava trails. The Yunohira Observatory — the closest permitted point (about 3 km from the crater) — is the main goal for viewing the active cones up close. The Yogan Nagisa lava trail along the bay lets visitors walk over hardened lava beside a hot-spring footbath. Some content documents explosive eruptions and ashfall that underline its status as Japan's most active volcano, while other clips show the 24-hour ferry crossing from Kagoshima city. All activity stresses respecting the exclusion zone and JMA monitoring.
