Information
- Elevation
- 1.054 m
- Country
- Bangladesh (BD)
- Location / Range
- Bukit Chittagong (Chittagong Hill Tracts), perbatasan Bangladesh–Myanmar — distrik Bandarban, dekat Thanchi dan Remakri
- Mountain type
- Puncak perbukitan tropis di punggungan perbatasan; secara luas dianggap titik tertinggi Bangladesh meski statusnya pernah diperdebatkan
- Volcanic?
- No (non-volcanic)
- Coordinates
- 21.7866, 92.6097
- Difficulty
Description
Saka Haphong — also known as Mowdok Taung or Tlang Moy — is a peak on the Bangladesh–Myanmar border widely believed to be the highest point in Bangladesh, at roughly 1,052–1,064 m (Wikidata records 1,054 m). That 'highest' status was long disputed: official maps and older sources often named Tazing Dong or Keokradong as the country's top, but GPS measurements by climbers place Saka Haphong above both. The summit sits on a ridge of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bandarban district, right on the boundary with Chin State, Myanmar. What makes the climb hard is not the altitude but the journey to it: trekkers typically need two to four days through dense tropical forest, along the Sangu and Remakri rivers, fording currents and sleeping in tribal villages (para) such as Nefu Para or Simpi Para before the final push. The peak can be approached from three directions — Thanchi, Ruma Bazar or Remakri — and all of them require a local guide, because the jungle here carries no waymarks. The area is also security-sensitive given the Myanmar border, so access can be restricted or closed at short notice and trekkers must coordinate with local posts.
Routes
Via Remakri (menyusuri sungai, lewat Nafa Khum)
Berat — penyeberangan sungai, jalur licin, hutan tanpa penandaThis approach follows the Remakri river — a tributary of the Sangu — and is a favourite because it passes the Nafa Khum waterfall. The route runs from Remakri via Nafa Khum, then villages such as Dula Para and Sajai Para, joining the main line at Nefu Para before the summit climb. Following the river means many crossings and slick, rocky ground; in the rainy season water levels can rise fast, so this route is safest in the dry season (roughly November–February). As on the other routes, there is no waymarking in the forest and a local guide is needed throughout.
Route Segments

Remakri → Nafa Khum

Via Ruma Bazar (lewat Danau Boga & Keokradong)
Berat — jalur terpanjang, tetapi melewati dua ikon trekking BangladeshThe classic line that links Saka Haphong with the two best-known trekking destinations in Bangladesh. From Ruma Bazar hikers climb to Boga Lake, continue to the summit of Keokradong (for years mistakenly regarded as Bangladesh's highest point), then push through villages such as Thaikang Para, Dulacharan Para and Hanjarai Para to Niphi/Nefu Para and finally the summit of Saka Haphong. It is the longest of the three routes but gives the fullest picture of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. A local guide is mandatory, and the whole trail demands readiness for humid jungle, leeches and an absence of facilities.

Via Thanchi (lewat Tazing Dong & Nefu Para)
Berat karena ketahanan — hutan lebat, tanjakan panjang, jalur tanpa penanda; pemandu lokal wajibOne of the three main approaches to Saka Haphong. From Thanchi the route runs through a chain of tribal villages (para) — among them Boarding Para and Sherkar Para — crossing the Tazing Dong area, then Simpi Para and Handhari Para, before overnighting at Nefu Para, the last village below the summit. From Nefu Para the top of Saka Haphong is only a couple of hours away. The trail cuts through dense unmarked tropical forest, so a local guide is essential; local guides also advise malaria prophylaxis before the trip. Because the peak sits right on the Myanmar boundary, trekkers must follow local reporting and security rules, and access can be closed at short notice.

Climbing Experiences
Almost all documentation of Saka Haphong is in Bengali and takes the form of a multi-day expedition rather than a day hike. A pattern repeats across the videos: the long journey to Bandarban, following rivers and tribal villages, sleeping in a 'para' such as Nefu Para, then an exhausting pre-dawn summit push through dense forest and steep ridges. Several creators explicitly describe the area as a restricted, security-sensitive zone near the Myanmar border and stress the need for a local guide — a theme that recurs throughout the clips below.
