Description

Ritacuba Blanco (5,410 m) is the highest peak of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy and the culminating point of Colombia's Cordillera Oriental, rising in Boyacá Department within El Cocuy National Park. It carries one of Colombia's largest surviving glaciers—an ice cap retreating fast under climate change, its lower edge having withdrawn from about 4,100 m (1950) to 4,500 m (2007) and projected to vanish before 2055. The standard northwest route from El Cocuy/Güicán is technically fairly easy, yet glacier travel, volatile páramo weather, and strict park rules keep it demanding. The area is also the ancestral land of the U'wa people, so access is tightly regulated for both conservation and cultural respect.

Jalur baku dan termudah secara teknis, dimulai dari kawasan penginapan/cabañas di sisi Güicán (sekitar 3.900 m). Pendaki naik melewati páramo dan super-páramo menuju tepi glasier di kisaran 4.900–5.000 m sebelum menyeberangi lapangan es menuju puncak 5.410 m. Menuntut kondisi fisik baik, teknik dasar glasier, dan kepatuhan pada aturan Taman Nasional El Cocuy (pemandu bersertifikat, reservasi, asuransi). Berangkat dini hari untuk menghindari cuaca siang yang cepat memburuk.
