Description

Ritacuba Blanco is an ice-covered peak in the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, part of Colombia’s Cordillera Oriental and El Cocuy National Park. Wikidata Q2648857 classifies it as a mountain and records 5,410 m; the park describes the range’s summits using 5,330 m, so published elevations are not fully consistent. Today’s Ritacuba visitor trail ends at the El Divino Niño glacier edge, with an official round-trip distance of about 14 km. Glacier entry, camping inside the park and access to the eastern flank are prohibited on the official page checked on 8 September 2026. Older summit accounts provide historical context rather than current access permission. The páramo and glacier landscape is also sacred territory for the U’wa people.

The official visitor trail reaches the El Divino Niño glacier edge, entering the park at about 4,000 m. The park lists 7 km each way, with roughly 5 km of the outward journey inside the protected area. Visitors must turn back without entering the glacier; trail entry is 06:00–08:00, descent must begin by 13:00 and the park must be cleared by 17:00 according to the page checked on 8 September 2026. Confirm capacity, guide arrangements and trail status before travelling.
