Description
Puʻu Kukui is the highest summit of the West Maui Mountains, or Mauna Kahalawai, on Maui, Hawaii. Wikidata records 5,788 feet, approximately 1,764 metres, on the remains of a volcano eroded into steep valleys. Summit bogs and native forest shelter endemic plants and capture water for West Maui communities. Aloha Puʻu Kukui now describes managing 8,304 acres in the Puʻu Kukui conservation easement and 891 acres at Honolua; these figures differ from preserve areas cited in historical reports. Private access remains restricted: a short visit to the start of the boardwalk does not authorize a summit ascent. Helicopter arrivals and lotteries in older articles document historical visits rather than a current public-access programme.

Routes
Awal boardwalk Puʻu Kukui (kunjungan konservasi terbatas)
Persetujuan pengelola; bukan pendakian puncak / Preserve approval; not a summit ascentAloha Puʻu Kukui describes possible short walks at the beginning of the boardwalk for significant volunteer or financial contributors. Reaching the start involves roughly one hour by ATV on a rough dirt road. No walking distance or total duration is confirmed; use only the section approved by the organization and follow equipment-decontamination requirements.
SourceClimbing Experiences
This collection distinguishes historical trip accounts, videos about the preserve and its conservation partnership, and visitor information from the managing organization. Jeff Wallach’s 2009 account and Shannon Wianecki’s 2007 article describe specially arranged helicopter and boardwalk visits, not access that can be assumed available today. Aloha Puʻu Kukui explains possible short walks at the start of the boardwalk and volunteering at Honolua, both distinct from a summit ascent. Video summaries are limited to the identity and topic verifiable through publisher metadata.
