Description
Poco Ranaka (also spelled Poco Ranakah or Gunung Ranakah) is part of the Ranakah volcanic complex in the south-central part of Flores island, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The complex is made up of several lava domes; the tallest, Poco Mandasawu (about 2,350 m), is the highest point of the entire island of Flores. In 1987 a new lava dome named Anak Ranakah ("child of Ranakah") appeared and later erupted in 1991; in 2011 faint white plumes were reported from the dome, without ash. The Poco Ranaka area is fairly easy to reach from the town of Ruteng and is popular for watching the sunrise, with several transmitter towers on top. The summit elevation of Poco Ranaka itself is recorded variously, roughly 2,100–2,300 m depending on the source.

Routes
Via Desa Robo (Ruteng) — jalan menara ke puncak
Sedang — mengikuti jalan/aspal menara pemancar, bagian akhir punggungan berbatuFrom Ruteng about 9 km east to Robo village (~1,238 m), then a roughly 9 km track — originally a Telkom-built asphalt road to the transmitter towers — climbing to the summit area (~2,282 m). Many visitors ride a motorbike to near the top and walk the final stretch. The best views of the Anak Ranakah lava dome are around km 6–7. A pre-dawn start is recommended for sunrise.

Sedang — punggungan sempit berbatu di bagian akhirAn alternative start from the TWA (nature-tourism park) office at Ntango, about 9 km; motorbikes generally reach around km 8, after which hikers walk the narrow rocky ridge to the summit. Total walking is about 5 hours; a 3–4 am start is advised to reach the crater at sunrise, with the Telkom mast and panoramic views over Ruteng at the top.
