Description

Pico Turquino (1,974 m) is the highest peak in Cuba, rising at the heart of the Sierra Maestra in the island's southeast within Turquino National Park. Its summit is marked by a bronze bust of national hero José Martí, installed in 1953, and the region is steeped in history as the Sierra Maestra served as a guerrilla stronghold in the late 1950s. The climb mostly threads dense, humid tropical forest via two main approaches: the steep, demanding southern route from Las Cuevas on the Caribbean coast, or the more gradual northern route from Santo Domingo/Alto del Naranjo (Granma province), with an overnight at the Aguada del Joaquín hut. Many hikers link them as a north–south traverse. An official guide is mandatory and visitor numbers are regulated to protect the ecosystem.

Berat
1–2 hari (±22 km PP)
