Description
Pico Paraná (1,877 m) is the highest peak in southern Brazil—the highest point anywhere in Brazil south of the latitude of Rio de Janeiro. It rises in the Serra do Ibitiraquire, part of the Serra do Mar, and is protected within Pico Paraná State Park on the border of the municipalities of Campina Grande do Sul and Antonina in Paraná State. The climb is demanding: a long trail alternating between sandy ground, mud, dense forest and steep rock faces, with many scrambling (escalaminhada) sections that require using your hands and fixed ropes, especially between the A2 shelter and the summit. Hikers typically overnight at the A1 or A2 shelters to reach the summit for sunrise. The best window is April–August, during the driest months, because the rock becomes very slippery and dangerous when wet. Access is usually via Fazenda Pico Paraná, which charges an entry fee.

Routes
Travessia Serra do Ibitiraquire
Sangat berat (ekspedisi)A multi-day traverse of the Serra do Ibitiraquire ridgeline linking several of Paraná's high peaks, including Pico Paraná. A long, remote route for experienced mountaineers, combining scrambling, navigation, and self-supported mountain camping.
SourceTrilha Fazenda Pico Paraná (via Abrigo A1 / A2)
Berat (scrambling, tali tetap)The standard and most popular route, starting from Fazenda Pico Paraná in Campina Grande do Sul. The long trail passes through dense forest, muddy and sandy terrain, then steep rock faces; hikers usually overnight at the A1 or A2 shelter before a pre-dawn summit push. The section between A2 and the summit requires scrambling with fixed ropes and is very dangerous when wet.
