Description

Pico Isabel de Torres is a forested mountain of about 793 m above Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, in the Cordillera Septentrional. The summit area contains the Christ the Redeemer statue, a botanical garden and walking paths overlooking the city and coast. The hillside ascent is much harder than the summit garden paths; the BirdsCaribbean guide estimates 2–3 hours uphill. The cable car shown in older trip accounts must not be assumed operational: Arecoa still reported its closure since June 2024 on 20 August 2026. Confirm ground access and descent arrangements before setting out; early arrival improves the chance of views before clouds build. Wildly Intrepid adds an account of muddy, slippery terrain, while Virtual Trip notes that even the garden paths include stairs and uphill sections.

Virtual Trip describes garden paths linking the Christ statue, viewpoints, orchid passage, pond and traditional house. On their 2023 visit the paths were surfaced and marked, but included many stairs and an uphill section to the restaurant. Their 1.5–2 hour estimate covers the garden walk only, excluding the mountain ascent or transport. Arrange ground access separately; the source’s cable-car account is historical.

Caribbean Birding Trail describes a path beneath the cable-car corridor to the midway tower, then a turn onto the ridge toward the summit. The 2–3 hour estimate covers ascent only, not a return trip. This is a published route description rather than confirmation of current opening; check local conditions and arrange a descent without relying on the cable car.

These accounts distinguish steep, slippery forest climbing, summit garden walks and a long journey toward Imbert. Wildly Intrepid describes mud and a descent near dusk; Virtual Trip notes stairs on the garden paths.
