Description
Pico da Neblina, also called Yaripo, is Brazil’s highest summit at about 2,995 m, in the Serra do Imeri near Venezuela. The summit stands on the Brazilian side within the national park and Yanomami Indigenous Territory; quartz-rich rocks form this non-volcanic mountain. Tourist visits resumed in 2022 through the Yanomami-led Yaripo program, while the 2019 news coverage concerned a proposed reopening. Access begins in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, with vehicle and boat transfers to Maturacá followed by several days on forest trails. Climbers describe rain, river crossings and hammock camps, then steep rock with ropes and metal footholds near the summit. Visits operate under the Yaripo plan and ICMBio accreditation; schedules depend on community decisions and river conditions.

Routes
Camp Base → puncak Yaripo (bagian akhir trek)
Berat; batu curam dengan tali dan pijakan besiThe expedition’s final section climbs from Camp Base at about 2,030 m to the summit near 2,995 m. The operator describes daypacks, ropes and iron rungs on steep terrain; this is not a separate approach.
SourceTrek Yaripo via Maturacá
Berat; trek hutan multi-hariRoad and boat transfers connect São Gabriel to Maturacá. PlanetaEXO’s example uses Irokae, Gavião, Bebedouro Novo, Laje and Base camps, returning along the same trail. Weather and Yanomami guidance determine the schedule.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbers describe river access, forest trekking and a rocky ascent with Yanomami teams. Matthew Holt’s experience differs from Rodrigo Silva’s 2014 research expedition; older durations and permit arrangements are not standard instructions for current visits.
