Description
Pedra do Baú (about 1,950 m) is a towering gneiss rock monolith in the Serra da Mantiqueira, in the municipality of São Bento do Sapucaí, São Paulo state, Brazil. Together with its two neighbouring formations — Bauzinho and Ana Chata — it forms the "Pedra do Baú complex," one of the best-known adventure-tourism destinations in the São Paulo interior. Its hundreds-of-metres rock walls draw sport climbers, but the summit is also reachable by ordinary visitors via a via ferrata: a run of iron ladders, footholds and safety cables fixed to the wall up to the top. The summit opens onto the Mantiqueira ranges, the São Bento do Sapucaí valley and, on clear days, the peaks toward Campos do Jordão.

Routes
Trilha do Bauzinho (alternatif ringan)
Menengah (jalur pendakian tanpa via ferrata puncak utama)A lighter option for those who prefer not to climb the main Pedra do Baú via ferrata: ascending the lower neighbouring formation, Bauzinho, to a viewpoint facing directly onto the Pedra do Baú wall and the São Bento do Sapucaí valley. Good for enjoying the rock complex without the full vertical exposure.
SourceVia Ferrata ke Cume Pedra do Baú
Menengah–berat (via ferrata dengan paparan ketinggian vertikal)The main route to the summit. From the access point near São Bento do Sapucaí, hikers follow a rocky trail to the base, then ascend the via ferrata — a run of iron ladders, fixed footholds, stone steps and safety cables anchored to the gneiss wall. The upper part is very exposed on a near-vertical face and is usually done with a licensed guide/operator given its demanding nature. The summit gives a 360° panorama of the Serra da Mantiqueira.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Reaching the summit of Pedra do Baú almost always means the via ferrata — a protected line of iron ladders, footholds and cables fixed to the vertical gneiss wall. Hikers first climb a rocky trail to the base, then follow the via ferrata sections to the top. Portuguese-language accounts consistently highlight the exposure, the Serra da Mantiqueira views, and the neighbouring Bauzinho and Ana Chata formations.
