Description

Pasir Masigit is a forested hill in Gegerbitung district, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, about 13 km southeast of Sukabumi city and roughly 90 km south of Jakarta. Its name is purely descriptive Sundanese: "pasir" means hill — defined in Sundanese dictionaries as a small, low mountain whose summit is not pointed — while "masigit" means mosque, so the name literally reads "Mosque Hill". The reason behind that naming is undocumented in any source and is not claimed here. The "pasir + attribute" pattern is the standard way hills are named in Sundanese country; in Purwakarta alone, 89 out of a surveyed thousand place names begin with "pasir". GeoNames records its elevation as 786 m, while the Copernicus elevation model gives about 775 m. The hill rises some 118 m above the surrounding terrain with a base roughly 1.6 km across, surrounded by forested hills; higher ground of about 1,073 m lies 2.6 km to the south. The climate is very wet, around 3,766 mm of rain a year with a mean temperature near 20 °C. The hill sits within a dense cluster of similar toponyms — within 6 km there are more than a dozen other summits such as Pasir Balukbuk, Pasir Kerud, Pasir Dayat and three separate hills called Pasir Gombong. NAME CAUTION: "Pasir Masigit" is a very common name in West Java — GeoNames lists roughly ten identically named features in the province, including in Cianjur, Tasikmalaya, Garut and West Bandung. This entry refers specifically to the Gegerbitung hill, Wikidata Q25163140. DATA LIMITATIONS: no climbing account, trail, access information or local news about this hill could be verified; it does not appear to be a hiking destination. All existing database entries (OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, GeoNames, a bot-generated Cebuano Wikipedia stub) descend from the same NGA GNS toponym database, and the morphometric and climate figures are computed from global datasets rather than field measurement.
