Description
Pasir Bedil is a hill of about 915 m in the hill country of the Cisokan river valley, on the border between West Bandung Regency and Cianjur Regency, West Java — roughly 90 km southeast of Jakarta. "Pasir" is the Sundanese word for hill, and the name is very common: at least seven features called Pasir Bedil exist across West Java, Banten and Central Java, so this hill is easily confused with others — including the 1,266 m summit next to Gunung Bubut south of Soreang, a different peak tens of kilometres away. The feature meant here is the one at 6.9506°S 107.2406°E, recorded in the NGA/GNS toponymic database, passed on to GeoNames (ID 6588808) and Wikidata (Q25163074), and mapped in OpenStreetMap as a natural=peak node. GeoNames-derived figures give it a prominence of only about 92 m above the surrounding terrain and a base some 1.6 km across; the nearest higher point is Pasir Tamiang (1,042 m) about 1.4 km to the south, and the nearest larger town is Ciranjang-hilir, about 14.6 km north. A digital-elevation-model reading at the same point gives roughly 875 m, slightly below the GNS figure of 915 m. Reverse-geocoding the coordinates in OpenStreetMap places it near Dusun Cimarel in West Bandung Regency (postcode 40565, Gununghalu district); the exact district cannot be confirmed because the point lies where Gununghalu, Cipongkor and Rongga meet, close to the Cianjur boundary. This landscape currently makes the news not for hiking but for the 1,040 MW Upper Cisokan Pumped Storage hydropower project, which dams the Cisokan river on the Bandung Barat–Cianjur border, according to Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. DATA LIMITATION: no hiking source, government page or media report discussing this particular Pasir Bedil could be found; every figure above comes from toponymic databases and elevation models rather than published field measurement.
