Description
The Outeniqua Mountains form a range running parallel to South Africa's southern coast, continuous with the Langeberg to the west and the Tsitsikamma to the east, and are the backbone of the Garden Route tourist region. The name comes from the Outeniqua Khoikhoi and is said to mean roughly 'they who bear honey'. Like the other Cape ranges, the Outeniqua are built of folded Cape Fold Belt sandstone (non-volcanic), with the highest peak, Cradock Peak, at about 1,578 m above the town of George. These rugged mountains long formed a barrier between the coast and the Little Karoo to the north; historic routes such as the Montagu Pass were built to cross them. Thanks to the moist Garden Route climate, their slopes hold Afromontane forest, fynbos, waterfalls and rivers, making them a popular trekking area — including nature trails in the Outeniqua Nature Reserve and multi-day forest hikes around George and Knysna. Sudden mist and rain are both a defining feature and a hazard of the range.

Menengah — trek hutan-dan-punggungan yang menuntut fisik dengan navigasi mandiriThe Outeniqua area and the Garden Route coast offer multi-day treks through dense forest, ridges and rivers between George and Knysna (e.g. the Outeniqua/Harkerville routes). Staying in huts or camps, these treks demand readiness for the moist weather, mist and steep terrain typical of the Garden Route.
