Description
Volcán Osorno (2,652 m) is a near-perfect conical stratovolcano in Chile's Los Lagos Region, about 45 km from Puerto Varas, rising between Lake Llanquihue and Lake Todos los Santos. Its symmetrical, snow-capped silhouette is often likened to Mount Fuji and is an emblem of the Lake District. Geologically it is one of the most active volcanoes of the southern Chilean Andes, with 11 recorded eruptions between 1575 and 1869, and although dormant for over a century it remains classed as active. The summit climb is more than a trek: the route follows glaciers with 40–45° ice slopes near the top, demanding helmet, crampons, ice axe, rope team and glacier-travel skills—usually with a licensed guide on a pre-dawn start. Because of crevasses and rockfall risk, authorities sometimes close the summit route temporarily; lower glacier treks and the La Burbuja ski area serve general visitors instead.

Routes
Rute Normal — Ladera Oeste (glasier)
Berat (es 40–45°, butuh crampon/kapak/tali)The standard summit route from the west, near the La Burbuja ski area. About 13 km with over 1,500 m of gain: volcanic scree then a glacier with 40–45° ice slopes near the top. Helmet, crampons, ice axe and rope-team travel are required, with a pre-dawn start and a licensed guide. The round trip can exceed 9 hours and is highly weather-dependent.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Osorno's summit is climbed with a guide via the west-flank glacier route (pre-dawn start, ~9 hours, crampons and ice axe). Weather often forces climbers to stop at the glacier's edge. Below are real, verified-live sources.
