Description

Numbur is a Himalayan peak in Nepal with an elevation of 6,958 m in Wikidata. It gives its name to the Numbur Cheese Circuit, a Ramechhap trek linking settlements, grazing country and alpine lakes. Henry and Douglas Colquhoun’s travel film documents two weeks on that trail. Operator itineraries show different designs: a circuit from Shivalaya and a variant continuing through Bhandar and Junbesi to Lukla. The high section requires camping, while some lower sections have lodges. Routes presented here are foothill treks; the reviewed sources do not establish summit restrictions or a climbing history.

Numbur Cheese Circuit (Shivalaya/Jiri — kolam alpine — pass ±5.000 m)

The main trekking route at the foot of Numbur. Starting from Shivalaya (or finishing at Jiri), the loop passes Sherpa settlements, Thodung monastery, cheese factories, high pastures, alpine ponds such as Panch Pokhari/Jata Pokhari, and a pass approaching 5,000 m with panoramas of Numbur. Being remote and largely a camping trek, it demands good logistics and acclimatisation. This is a foothill trek, not a route to Numbur’s summit.

Numbur Cheese Circuit — varian lanjut Bhandar–Junbesi–Lukla

Trek tinggi dengan camping; penyeberangan Gyazo-La sekitar 4.880 m

This operator variant begins with a drive to Jiri and walks through Shivalaya, Khahare, Mane Danda, Tare and Ngesu Kharka. After crossing Gyazo-La, it descends through Kyama to Bhandar and continues along the Solu route through Sete, Junbesi, Nunthala, Khari Khola and Paiya to Lukla. The 16-day package includes transport and Kathmandu sightseeing; the high section uses tents. This is a Numbur foothills trek with an extension to Lukla, not a route to Numbur’s summit.

Trekker accounts and a travel film are supplemented by clearly labelled operator itineraries. Designs differ: some return to Shivalaya while another continues to Lukla. The high section involves camping and a mountain pass; package length is not always the number of walking days.
