Description

Ntchisi Mountain is a mountain in central Malawi, in Ntchisi District east of the town of Ntchisi, whose peak reaches 1,702 m, with a few neighbouring peaks exceeding 1,600 m. It sits on the western edge of the East African Rift and forms part of the north–south belt of hills, mountains and escarpments that mark the rift's western boundary; to the east lies a plain running toward Lake Malawi, and to the west the Central Region Plateau (Lilongwe Plain). The area has been protected as the Ntchisi Forest Reserve since 1924 and preserves one of Malawi's rare remnants of indigenous montane rainforest. Visits are dominated by rainforest walks, birding and wildlife watching, and short climbs to viewpoints — commonly accessed via the historic Ntchisi Forest Lodge.
