Description

North Dawu Mountain (北大武山, Beidawushan) rises to 3,092 m at the southern end of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range, on the Pingtung–Taitung boundary. It belongs to Taiwan’s Five Mountains and holds sacred significance for Paiwan and Rukai communities. The main trail passes Kuaigu Inn (檜谷山莊) and the Dawu Shrine site before the summit. The managing agency suggests two to three days; its official nine-kilometre trail measurement starts at the old entrance, so the new approach adds distance. Hikers’ accounts illustrate the different demands of one versus two hut nights and the possibility of turning back before the summit. Seas of clouds are a seasonal attraction rather than a guaranteed view.

Routes

Jalur utama: pintu baru → Kuaigu Inn → puncak

Berat / strenuous — official level 5
2–3 hari / days

An out-and-back summit route via Kuaigu Inn and Dawu Shrine. The official trail is nine kilometres each way from the old entrance; the approach from the new entrance adds distance outside that measurement. Plan one or two hut nights according to ability and reservations.

Pendakian tiga hari: dua malam di Kuaigu Inn

Berat / strenuous
3 hari, 2 malam / 3 days, 2 nights

A scheduling variant of the main trail: approach Kuaigu Inn on day one, summit and return to the hut on day two, then descend on day three. The February 2026 account separates summit day from the long exit; this is not a different geographical trail.

Tujuan antara: Tebing Xiduoli dan Kuaigu Inn

Tanjakan hutan yang panjang / sustained forest ascent

Follow the trail from the new entrance through the old-entrance checkpoint to Xiduoli Cliff and Kuaigu Inn. The hiker’s account places the cliff at the 3.8-kilometre marker from the old entrance. This intermediate destination is well before the summit; allow time to return and distinguish a viewpoint visit from summiting Beidawushan.

Climbing Experiences

Beidawushan accounts cover an exhausting two-day ascent, three-day trips with two nights at Kuaigu Inn (檜谷山莊), and a journey that ended before the summit. FOODBABY stresses the demanding descent after summiting, while Kate Mao Mao records turning back at the start of the ridge before Dawu Shrine. HikingTW’s February 2026 account shows that sunny weather does not guarantee seas of clouds at Xiduoli Cliff (喜多麗斷崖). The linked vlogs complement the written reports with a focus on the viewpoint and the journey.
