Description
Njesuthi, also known as the Injisuthi Dome, is one of the highest peaks of the Drakensberg (uKhahlamba) escarpment at about 3,408 m. It sits on the border between the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho, near the Injisuthi valley. Less than 1.5 km along the escarpment rises Mafadi (about 3,450 m), the highest point in South Africa. The dome and the neighbouring Triplets form the high ground reached on multi-day escarpment hikes from Injisuthi Camp.
Routes
Injisuthi Camp → Centenary Hut
BeratThis route starts at Injisuthi Camp and follows a track of about 10.48 km with roughly 953 m of ascent up to Centenary Hut at around 2,296 m. The first ~7.5 km are relatively easy before a steep final hill (locally the 'heart break hill') up to the hut. It is achievable by most fit hikers at a steady pace but is rated difficult. The hut is in disrepair, so carrying a tent is advised, and the exposed site can be extremely windy. It serves as the base for higher escarpment objectives around Njesuthi Dome and Mafadi.

Sirkuit Escarpment Mafadi/Injisuthi (via Centenary Hut & Leslie's Pass)
BeratA demanding circular multi-day hike that begins and ends at Injisuthi Camp and reaches the high Drakensberg escarpment beside Njesuthi Dome. Night one is spent at Centenary Hut, with day two climbing a steep escarpment pass toward the Triplets. Day three summits Mafadi (3,450 m), South Africa's highest peak, before a long descent to the bottom of Leslie's Pass. Total elevation gain and loss is roughly 2,511 m over the four days, and the route is rated difficult, demanding high fitness for the trailless and rocky terrain.

Climbing Experiences
The Njesuthi Dome is reached on multi-day Drakensberg escarpment hikes from Injisuthi Camp, often combined with its neighbour Mafadi (South Africa's highest point). Hikers highlight the long climb to Centenary Hut, steep passes (Leslie's Pass), trailless escarpment terrain, fast-changing weather, and high-altitude wind and cold.
