Description
The Ngong Hills (high point ~2,460 m) are a series of peaks along a ridge on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, just south-west of Nairobi, Kenya. The name comes from the Maasai phrase "enkong'u emuny" (rhinoceros spring). These grassy hills — interspersed with the turbines of the Ngong Hills Wind Farm — are one of Kenya's most popular day hikes: walkers traverse the "seven peaks" from the Kenya Forest Service gate near Ngong town to Kona Baridi at the southern end, with the Rift Valley on the west and the Nairobi skyline to the east. The area is also tied to Karen Blixen's "Out of Africa". Though not technically hard, the trail is windy, exposed and relentlessly undulating, demanding good stamina; hiking in a group is advised for safety.
