Description
Nevado Tres Cruces is a huge volcanic massif in the Puna de Atacama, straddling the Chile–Argentina border and forming part of Nevado Tres Cruces National Park in Chile's Atacama Region. Its highest summit, Tres Cruces Sur (6,749 m), ranks among the tallest mountains in South America and the world outside Asia, with a second peak, Tres Cruces Central (~6,629 m). It sits next to Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano on Earth, in one of the driest and most remote high deserts on the planet. Climbing it demands long acclimatisation, a self-supported 4x4 expedition past altiplano lagoons and salt lakes, and endurance against extreme wind and cold — far from any tourist trail and only for experienced high-altitude mountaineers.

Routes
Rute Normal Tres Cruces Sur (6.749 m) — sisi Chili
Ekspedisi berat / ketinggian ekstremThe climb to the highest summit, Tres Cruces Sur (6,749 m), is usually approached from the Chilean side in the Atacama Region with 4x4 access past altiplano lagoons in Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, then high camps and a summit push. It demands long acclimatisation and readiness for the extreme wind and cold of the high Puna desert.
SourceTres Cruces Central (≈6.629 m)
Ekspedisi berat / ketinggian ekstremThe massif's second summit, Tres Cruces Central (~6,629 m), is climbed less often and is a distinct objective — including solitary winter attempts. It likewise demands self-supported logistics, acclimatisation, and endurance against extreme high-altitude conditions.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Nevado Tres Cruces is an extreme-altitude expedition objective in the heart of the Puna de Atacama — a volcanic massif above 6,700 m neighbouring Ojos del Salado. Climbing it demands long acclimatisation, self-supported 4x4 logistics past altiplano lagoons and salt lakes, and endurance against extreme wind and cold in one of the world's most remote high deserts. Experience sources cover summit climbs of Tres Cruces Sur and Central, access through Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, and even a solitary winter ascent.
