Description

Nevado Ishinca (5,530 m) is a snow peak in Peru's Cordillera Blanca, set in the Ishinca Valley (Quebrada Ishinca) within Huascarán National Park. Its name means 'snow-covered mountain'. Ishinca is widely known as one of the friendliest 5,000-metre peaks for novice mountaineers in the Cordillera Blanca: its normal line, the North-West Route, is graded alpine PD− and is often used as an acclimatization climb before higher objectives such as Tocllaraju or Huascarán. The scenic Ishinca Valley has a base camp and a refuge, making it a popular hub for linking several peaks (Ishinca, Urus, Tocllaraju) in one expedition. The North-West Route was first climbed in 1964 by J. Fonrouge, W. Lindaver, H. Salger, H. Schmidbauer and V. Staudacher.

Routes

Basis Quebrada Ishinca — rangkaian multi-puncak (Ishinca–Urus–Tocllaraju)

Bervariasi (Urus/Ishinca lebih mudah; Tocllaraju lebih teknis)
Ekspedisi 5–8 hari untuk beberapa puncak

The Ishinca Valley serves as a strategic base camp for linking several peaks in one expedition: Ishinca (5,530 m) and Urus Este as easier acclimatization summits, then Tocllaraju (~6,034 m) as a more technical objective. This pattern is popular because a single valley gives access to a range of difficulties, with the refuge and base camp as a logistics hub. The whole area lies within Huascarán National Park.

Rute Normal — North-West Route (jalur Barat Laut)

Alpine PD− (glasial; kemiringan salju/es sedang menjelang puncak)
+900 m Puncak ~4–6 jam dari high camp; total 3–4 hari dari Huaraz termasuk pendekatan & aklimatisasi

The main and most popular route up Nevado Ishinca. From a base camp in the Ishinca Valley (near the refuge), climbers ascend to a high/moraine camp, then cross the glacier and climb the alpine PD− North-West Route to the 5,530 m summit. Because it is technically moderate and relatively accessible from Huaraz, this route is a favourite for acclimatization and a first high-altitude mountaineering experience. The North-West Route was first climbed in 1964.

Climbing Experiences

Nevado Ishinca is often called the 'easiest snow peak in the Cordillera Blanca' and is a popular choice for acclimatization or a first high-altitude mountaineering experience in the Andes. Climbers' footage shows the approach through the Ishinca Valley, life at the base camp/refuge (~4,350 m), the glaciated normal route, and linking it with neighbouring peaks such as Urus and Tocllaraju.
