Description
Nevado Incahuasi (6,621 m) is a giant volcano in the heart of the Puna de Atacama on the Argentina–Chile border, and ranks among the ten highest mountains in the Americas. Its name comes from Quechua 'Inka Wasi' ('house of the Inca'), and traces of a high-altitude Inca site have been found in its summit area. Although technically straightforward — no serious ice or rock climbing — the ascent is extremely demanding because of the extreme altitude, thin air, biting desert wind and total remoteness. It is climbed expedition-style with gradual acclimatisation and one or more high camps, usually from the Chilean side near Laguna Verde and the Ojos del Salado axis, or from the Argentine side via Fiambalá, Catamarca. The surroundings are a high-desert landscape of coloured lagoons and a line of 6,000-metre stratovolcanoes.

Routes
Rute Normal sisi Chili — via Laguna Verde / poros Ojos del Salado
Non-teknis (Kelas 1–2) namun ketinggian ekstrem >6.600 mThe commonly used approach from the Chilean side in the Atacama Region, sharing the logistics axis with Ojos del Salado around Laguna Verde. It is climbed expedition-style: drive high to the base, acclimatise gradually, set one or more high camps, then a long summit day across loose volcanic terrain. No serious technical climbing is needed, but the air is very thin, the desert wind biting and temperatures well below freezing.
SourceSisi Argentina — via Fiambalá (Catamarca)
Non-teknis namun ketinggian ekstremThe approach from the Argentine side via the town of Fiambalá in Catamarca Province, the classic gateway to the high Puna peaks. It involves a long overland journey to the mountain's foot with local permits and guides, then a gradual acclimatisation climb to the 6,621 m summit on the border with Chile.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Incahuasi documentation — both summit vlogs and written Spanish/English trip reports — is dominated by Andean high-altitude expeditions: climbers stress acclimatisation, high camps (e.g. the La Canaleta route), biting desert wind and loose volcanic terrain. Although there is no serious technical climbing, the >6,600 m altitude and total remoteness in the Puna de Atacama make it a serious high summit of the Americas.
