Description
Nevado de Colima, or Zapotépetl (±4,271 m), is a dormant volcano in the western Mexican state of Jalisco — one of Mexico's highest peaks and the highest climbable summit in the Colima area. On its western side, across a saddle, stands the very active Volcán de Colima (Volcán de Fuego). The usual ascent begins at the La Joya trailhead through pine forest, then sand and scree slopes; near the top a short semi-technical rock step (~5 m) leads onto the summit ridge.
