Description
Negoiu (2,535 m) is Romania's second-highest summit and one of the most dramatic points on the main ridge of the Făgăraș Mountains in the Southern Carpathians. The summit is approached from Călțun Lake, where the trail splits: the shorter Strunga Dracului ("Devil's Pass"), now closed after rockfalls damaged its safety chains, and the longer but safer Strunga Doamnei, a narrow rocky passage demanding confident movement on steep terrain. The classic northern approach starts at Porumbacu de Sus and climbs past Cabana Negoiu. Many hikers who have done both of Romania's highest peaks rate Negoiu as more challenging and spectacular than the slightly higher Moldoveanu.

Routes
Pendekatan utara via Cabana Negoiu (Saua Caprei)
Menuntut — jalur punggung tereksposThe classic northern approach climbs through forest to Cabana Negoiu, then to Saua Caprei before following the ridge to the summit. It links the hut area with the exposed summit section and is often combined with a traverse of the main Făgăraș ridge. It requires stamina for the long ascent and care on the rocky sections near the top.
SourcePuncak via Strunga Doamnei (dari Danau Călțun)
Berat — scrambling tereksposThe recommended route to Negoiu's summit starts at Călțun Lake, then takes the left branch to Strunga Doamnei — a narrow rocky passage that is longer but far safer than Strunga Dracului. The upper section demands confident movement on steep, exposed terrain before topping out on the ridge to the 2,535 m summit. Suited to fit hikers comfortable with scrambling; avoid when wet or snowy.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Accounts of Negoiu focus on its demanding Făgăraș summit section: the choice between the safer Strunga Doamnei and the now-closed Strunga Dracului, exposed chained passages, and dramatic main-ridge panoramas. Some do it as a fast day hike, others camp at Călțun Lake. Almost all stress the fast-changing mountain weather and the cool head needed on the scrambling terrain.
