Description

Nebelhorn (2,224 m) stands in the Allgäu Alps above Oberstdorf in Bavaria, Germany. The Nebelhornbahn provides access to the mountain area; Höfatsblick and the summit station are separate places. The operator offers the Nordwandsteig circuit around the summit overlooking the north face. A hiking option from Höfatsblick visits Seealpsee and returns the same way, while the Hindelanger Klettersteig follows the ridge from Nebelhorn toward Großer Daumen. Bergsteigen grades this via ferrata C with 1- climbing sections and notes that some steep sections have no fixed cable protection.

From the Nebelhorn summit station, follow the ridge over the Wengenköpfe toward Großer Daumen, returning via Laufbichelsee to the middle station. Cables and ladders alternate with climbing without fixed protection. Bergsteigen identifies two emergency exits at notches and warns against descending on the north side. A via ferrata set and helmet are required.
