Description

Naya Kanga (5,846 m), also known as Ganja La Chuli, rises immediately west of the Ganja La pass (~5,130 m) in the Langtang region north of Kathmandu. Sitting beside the Ganja La crossing that links the Langtang Valley with Helambu, the peak is a popular objective for trekkers combining a Langtang trek with a first snow climb. The ascent begins from Kyanjin Gompa (~3,870 m), the hub of Langtang trekking, then climbs to a base and high camp near the Ganja La before tackling the north-west/north ridge of snow and ice slopes to the summit. The top gives a panorama of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang Ri, Dorje Lakpa, and distant Tibetan peaks. A PD+ NMA trekking peak, Naya Kanga demands glacier-travel skills and the use of crampons and an ice axe, yet stays within reach of trained, guided climbers — a classic pairing of Langtang Valley scenery with genuine alpine challenge.

Routes

Rute Normal via Kyanjin Gompa & Punggungan Utara/Barat Laut

PD+ (Peu Difficile plus) — glacier travel, snow/ice slope ~45–50°, fixed rope pada bagian curam menjelang puncak; crampon & ice axe wajib
Summit day ~8–11 jam pulang-pergi dari high camp; total ekspedisi ~14–18 hari dari Kathmandu termasuk trek Langtang

The standard Naya Kanga route is rooted in the Langtang Valley trek: from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, then up via Lama Hotel and Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (~3,870 m), the area's acclimatization hub. From Kyanjin, the team climbs to a base camp and high camp near the Ganja La pass (~5,100–5,300 m). The summit push begins pre-dawn, crossing a small glacier then ascending snow and ice slopes on the north/north-west ridge angled up to ~45–50°; the steepest section is secured with fixed rope. The summit (5,846 m) offers a panorama of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang Ri, Dorje Lakpa, and the Tibetan border peaks. Many teams combine the climb with the Ganja La pass crossing into Helambu to finish the trip.
