Description
Nat Ma Taung — known since colonial times as Mount Victoria — is the highest peak of Chin State in western Myanmar at about 3,070 m (many sources also cite 3,053 m) and one of Southeast Asia's ultra-prominent peaks. It forms the heart of Nat Ma Taung National Park, an ASEAN Heritage Park celebrated for its biodiversity: more than 150 bird species and rhododendron forests that bloom in the dry season. Unlike the Himalayan giants, Nat Ma Taung is not a technical climb — the trail runs through forest, high grassland, and rocky slopes, and the summit can be reached in a single day from Kanpetlet, though there are also two-day treks through Chin tribal villages to Mindat and longer circular routes. The main challenges are altitude, cold, and the remoteness of the Chin region. The most common access is actually from Bagan: by vehicle to the town of Saw and on to Kanpetlet, the park's southern gateway. Because it lies in an area where security and permit conditions can change, hikers are advised to use local guides and check the latest situation.

Routes
Rute normal dari Kanpetlet (via jalan menuju dekat puncak) — satu hari
Ringan–menengah, non-teknis — tanjakan lewat hutan, padang rumput, dan lereng berbatu; tantangan utama ketinggianThe most common and quickest route. From Kanpetlet, the southern gateway of Nat Ma Taung National Park, hikers follow a recently improved road to near the base of the summit, then walk through rhododendron forest and rocky slopes to the roughly 3,070 m top. Being non-technical, most people can complete it in a single day, though the cold and altitude still demand preparation. Access to Kanpetlet is most commonly from Bagan via the town of Saw.
SourceTrek Kanpetlet – Mindat lewat desa-desa suku Chin — dua hari
Menengah — trek melintasi pegunungan dan desa Chin, lebih panjang dan lebih terpencilA slower, more cultural alternative: a direct route through the mountains and Chin tribal villages from Kanpetlet to the town of Mindat, taking about two days and two nights. It suits those who want to experience Chin rural life and the national park landscape rather than just bagging the summit. There is also a longer circular variation (about five days, four nights) to the west and north from Kanpetlet that begins with the road toward the summit of Mount Victoria.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Accounts of climbing Nat Ma Taung (Mount Victoria) stress that it is not a technical climb but a journey of altitude and remoteness: the trail runs through forest, high grassland, and rocky slopes to the highest point of Chin State. Recurring themes: the long access (usually from Bagan via Saw to Kanpetlet), a final stretch that can be done in a day along the road near the summit, and the appeal of rhododendron forest and sweeping Chin Hills panoramas as one of Southeast Asia's ultra-prominent peaks. Some videos highlight the 360-degree summit views and Chin village life, while trekking guides emphasize the choice of a one-day route, a two-day trek to Mindat, or a five-day circuit.
