- Difficulty
- Very difficult and remote — a full multi-week expedition requiring a Chinese permit, with glacier terrain and technical ice ridges; very rarely climbed

- October (autumn, after the Tibetan monsoon has eased); spring (April–May) is sometimes attempted but the weather is more unstable
- Permits & Rules
- A Chinese expedition permit is mandatory — administered through the China Mountaineering Association (CMA); the area lies within a sensitive border zone with very restricted access; permit costs are high and the approval process is lengthy
- Hazards
- Extreme remoteness (difficult logistics, limited helicopter evacuation), unpredictable Tibetan weather, avalanches, crevasse-riddled glaciers, and the influence of humid air from the Yarlung Tsangpo gorge that creates unstable ice conditions on the lower sections
Description
Namcha Barwa (7,782 m in Wikidata) stands in Tibet, China, at the eastern end of the Himalaya near the Yarlung Tsangpo bend. A Japanese–Chinese team summited on 30 October 1992. The Alpine Journal distinguishes a northwestern approach from the southern climbing line across the shoulder of Naipun. The experiences collected here include historical expeditions and regional visits; visiting the canyon is not a summit climb.

Routes
Pe–Doshong La — trekking kawasan historis 1996 / Historical regional trek
Lintasan bersalju / Snow-covered pass crossingSondheimer’s account starts from a forest camp above Pe, crosses Doshong La and returns three days later. Fresh snow made the return difficult. This is a regional Namcha Barwa trek, not a summit route; present access has not been verified.
SourcePunggungan Selatan via Naipun / South Ridge via Naipun — rute historis 1992
Ekspedisi teknis / Technical expeditionThe southern line crosses Naipun and descends to the col before continuing to the summit. This is a historical reconstruction, not a tourist trail or confirmation of current access.
SourceClimbing Experiences
This collection distinguishes the 1991 attempt, the 1992 success, a 1996 botanical trek and canyon visits. The historical summit route approached from the south via Naipun. Older accounts do not establish present access or route conditions.
