Description
Nag Tibba (3,022 m / 9,915 ft), meaning 'abode of the Serpent God', is the highest peak of the Lesser Himalayan Nag Tibba Range in the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand, India, and is nicknamed the 'Queen of Garhwal'. Lying about 57 km from Mussoorie and easily reached from Dehradun, it is the region's most popular beginner weekend trek, typically done over two days from Pantwari village. The trail climbs through oak and rhododendron forest to a base camp and ends at an open summit crowned by the small Nag Devta temple, where local villagers pray for the protection of their cattle. The summit offers sweeping views of Garhwal snow peaks including Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, Srikanth, Kala Nag, and the Gangotri group. Its easy access, non-technical terrain, and broad Himalayan panorama make it a favourite gateway for those new to high-mountain trekking.
Routes
Rute alternatif Devalsari → Puncak Nag Tibba (via Thatyur)
Mudah; lebih sepi dan rimbun daripada jalur PantwariA far quieter alternative to the Nag Tibba summit sets out from Devalsari, a remote deodar-forest area reached via the Suwakholi–Thatyur side road (about 21 km north off the Tehri highway, then Thatyur on to Devalsari). From Devalsari it is only about a 3 km walk through dense deodar and cedar forest to reach the 3,022 m summit and its Himalayan panorama. As it lies in a forest conservation area, an overnight stay at the Devalsari Forest Rest House needs permission from the Mussoorie Forest Office. The trail has almost no settlements and water is scarce, so trekkers should carry their own; its appeal is the calm atmosphere, old deodar stands, and far smaller crowds than the popular Pantwari route.
Route Segments
- 1
Suwakholi → Thatyur → Devalsari (bermobil)
Jalan cabang dari Suwakholi menuju Thatyur lalu Devalsari (±21 km ke utara); Forest Rest House Devalsari perlu izin Kantor Kehutanan Mussoorie.
- 2

Menembus hutan deodar/cedar lebat dan sepi menuju puncak; bawa air sendiri karena sumber air langka.
Rute klasik Pantwari → Base Camp Khathiyan → Puncak Nag Tibba
Mudah–Sedang (Easy–Moderate); non-teknis, ramah pemulaThe most popular and easiest route to Nag Tibba starts from Pantwari village (about 90 km from Dehradun via Mussoorie and Kempty Falls). Day one is roughly a 4 km walk through oak and rhododendron forest up to Khathiyan base camp for an overnight tent stay; day two is the summit push to the Nag Devta temple area at 3,022 m before descending back to Pantwari. It is widely regarded as one of the best beginner-friendly Himalayan weekend treks, with summit views of Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, and Kala Nag.
