Description
Mount William, known by its local Aboriginal name Duwul, is the highest peak of the Grampians (Gariwerd) Range in western Victoria, Australia, reaching 1,167 m. It sits on the eastern edge of Grampians National Park, roughly 250 km west-northwest of Melbourne and about 22 km south of the tourist hub of Halls Gap. Unlike most Grampians summits, the final approach follows a sealed but steeply inclined former service road that climbs from the Mount William car park toward a communications facility near the top. The reward is a sweeping 360-degree panorama over the park's rugged sandstone ridges, surrounding farmland and, on clear days, distant ranges. The walk is short—about 3.8 km return—yet the sustained gradient makes it a solid workout. Weather changes quickly at this altitude; wind, cold and occasional winter snow are common, and the exposed summit offers little shelter. The peak also anchors the multi-day Grampians Peaks Trail.

SourceClimbing Experiences
Accounts of climbing Mount William (Duwul) repeatedly stress one thing: the summit approach is a former sealed road that climbs steeply and steadily, making it feel harder than expected despite being short. Many creators highlight the 360-degree panorama from the highest point in the Grampians as the payoff, including rows of sandstone ridges and surrounding farmland. Some vlogs capture visits in winter snow, showing how quickly the weather changes and how little shelter the exposed summit offers. Other recurring themes are sunset ascents and combining the walk with other Grampians highlights such as The Pinnacle and MacKenzie Falls. Overall the trail is judged beginner-friendly as long as walkers are ready for the gradient.
