Description

Mount Timpanogos (3,581 m, 'Timp') is the iconic peak of Utah's Wasatch Range and its second-highest summit after Mount Nebo. Rising dramatically above the cities of Provo and Orem, it is one of Utah's most popular strenuous day hikes, prized for sweeping views, alpine wildflower meadows around the Emerald Lake basin, and the persistent snowfield on its upper slopes. Two main trails — the steeper Aspen Grove and the longer, gentler Timpooneke — join near Emerald Lake before climbing to the saddle-shaped summit ridge. Though non-technical, the hike demands stamina: round trips reach roughly 24 km with over 1,400 m of gain. The mountain lies within the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness and sits above Timpanogos Cave National Monument on its lower flanks.

Routes

Jalur Aspen Grove (Timpanogos Trail)

Climbing Experiences

Accounts of climbing Mount Timpanogos stress its two main routes — the steeper Aspen Grove and the longer, gentler Timpooneke — both passing waterfalls, the Emerald Lake basin, and alpine meadows before a windy final ridge. Vlogs convey just how long and tiring this day hike is (a full day for most), alongside sweeping views over Utah Valley from the summit. Many hikers call Timp a rite of passage for Utah mountaineers.
