Description
Te Aroha (953 m) is the highest peak of the Kaimai Range and the backdrop to the small town of the same name on the edge of the Hauraki Plains, in New Zealand's North Island. Its Māori name means "mountain of love". From the Te Aroha Domain, the Te Aroha Summit Track climbs nearly 1,000 m over about 3.9 km — short but demanding of good fitness — through dense forest to a transmitter-topped summit with 360-degree views over the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty; on a clear day Ruapehu, Ngāuruhoe, and Taranaki are visible in the distance. It is a popular day walk for locals and visitors alike.
