Description
Mount Shimbiris (Shimbir Berris, 2,460 m) is the highest point in Somalia. It rises within the Cal Madow massif — part of the Ogo/Golis Mountains — in the Sanaag region of northern Somalia (administered by Somaliland). Contrary to Somalia's usual desert image, its summit zone shelters humid montane juniper forest and some of the highest rainfall in the country. From the escarpment rim the land drops steeply toward the coastal plain and the Gulf of Aden. Cal Madow is a rare biodiversity refuge in the Horn of Africa: dragon's blood trees, Boswellia frereana frankincense, endemic birds such as the Somali thrush, and mammals including hamadryas baboon and hyrax. The usual gateway is the town of Erigavo (Ceerigaabo) and the Daallo Forest at its foot. The climb is not technically demanding, but remoteness, minimal infrastructure, and security considerations make it seldom attempted and require careful planning with local guides.
Routes
Daallo Mountain Trail (dari Erigavo/Ceerigaabo)
Sedang (trek hutan & escarpment non-teknis; keterpencilan jadi faktor utama)The most common approach to Somalia's high-point area. From Erigavo (Ceerigaabo), an overland drive reaches the Daallo Forest in the Cal Madow massif, then trekking follows juniper forest and the escarpment rim overlooking the Gulf of Aden. Arranged through local operators; trails are unmarked so a guide is required.

SourceClimbing Experiences
Reaching the Mount Shimbiris area — Somalia's roof (2,460 m) in the Cal Madow massif, Sanaag — in practice means exploring the Daallo Forest/Mountain from the town of Erigavo (Ceerigaabo). Trip documentation is still scarce due to remoteness and security considerations, but the vlogs, blog, and trip reports below give a real sense of the montane forest and Cal Madow escarpment.
