- Difficulty

Description
Mount Shahdagh (Şahdağ, "king's mountain") is a soaring limestone peak on the main crest of the Greater Caucasus, rising to about 4,243 m in the Qusar District of northern Azerbaijan, close to the border with Dagestan, Russia. It ranks among the country's highest summits and is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Azerbaijani Caucasus — its sedimentary walls and towers (which include magnesian lime, chalkstone and marble) stand dramatically above the high pastures. The name Shahdag is now also attached to the Shahdag Mountain Resort, a large ski and mountain-tourism resort on the lower slopes (~2,300–2,500 m) reached by road and gondola; that resort, however, is distinct from the true Shahdagh summit, which requires serious high-mountain climbing. Summit routes usually start from the village of Laza or the Qusar area, combining a long approach trek, limestone scrambling and snow terrain up high, calling for acclimatization and snow/ice gear. Because it lies in a border zone, ascents typically require permits and local guides. Winter temperatures can fall to around -20°C.

Routes
Rute puncak dari desa Laza (Qusar) — pendekatan utara Kaukasus
Pendakian gunung tinggi menuntut: trek panjang, scramble batuan gamping, dan bidang salju di bagian atas; butuh aklimatisasi dan peralatan salju/esThe most common climbing route to the true Shahdagh summit starts from the village of Laza in the Qusar area: a long trek across high pastures and valleys to a high camp, then a summit push over rock scrambling and snow/ice fields toward 4,243 m. As it lies in a zone near the Russian border, ascents usually require permits/registration and a local guide.

Non-teknis / wisata: gondola dan jalur wisata pada ~2.300–2.500 m, bukan pendakian puncakA non-climbing alternative: the Shahdag Mountain Resort on the lower slopes offers road and gondola access to roughly 2,300–2,500 m for winter skiing and summer sightseeing and light hiking. It brings visitors close to the Shahdagh massif's panorama without reaching the true summit.

Coverage of Shahdagh splits in two: high-mountain climbs to the true 4,243 m summit (a long approach, limestone scrambling and snow terrain up high) and popular mountain tourism at the Shahdag Mountain Resort on the lower slopes — skiing, gondola rides and camping. The videos below honestly cover both, from a real summit ascent to the atmosphere of the resort and surrounding peaks.
