Description
Mount Saramati (~3,826 m) is the highest peak in Nagaland and the highest point of the Naga Hills, standing on the India (Kiphire district)–Myanmar (Sagaing) border. Its ridge forms the watershed dividing the Brahmaputra and Chindwin river basins. The usual trekking base is the Yimkhiung Naga village of Thanamir — known as Nagaland's 'apple village' — reached via Dimapur–Kohima–Pungro. From Thanamir the trail climbs through dense forest and rhododendron to a base camp, then over grassy ridges and a near-vertical rock face (using hands and vines) to a summit marked by the India–Myanmar boundary pillar. The full trek is typically around 7 days (~3 days of actual trekking to the summit and back), non-technical but demanding for its remoteness, steep sections and cold high-altitude weather. Saramati remains a notable but still relatively offbeat Northeast India summit.
Routes
Rute desa Thanamir (trek standar)
Menengah hingga menantang — trek non-teknis dengan bagian curam dan terbukaThe standard and essentially only trekking route starts at Thanamir village (the 'apple village') in Kiphire district, reached via Dimapur–Kohima–Pungro. From Thanamir the trail climbs through dense forest and rhododendron to a base camp, then over grassy ridges and a steep near-vertical rock face requiring hands and vines to the summit on the India–Myanmar boundary. The trek is non-technical but demanding for its remoteness and steep, exposed sections.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Experiences on Saramati are mostly documented through trek vlogs by Northeast India hikers setting out from Thanamir village in Kiphire district. The material below covers real journeys: walking from the Thanamir 'apple village', through forest and rhododendron, camp life, up to the near-vertical rock face and the India–Myanmar boundary pillar at the 3,826 m summit.
