Description

Pourangahau / Mount Robert (1,421 m) rises above Lake Rotoiti near St Arnaud in Nelson Lakes National Park on New Zealand’s South Island. Its day circuit links the steep Pinchgut Track with Paddys Track via Bushline Hut, with lake views from open slopes. Walking accounts recommend ascending Pinchgut and descending Paddys to face the views; returning the same way on Paddys offers an alternative to the steeper Pinchgut climb. Continuing to Angelus along Robert Ridge is a separate alpine undertaking: DOC lists 12.2 km and about six hours each way. Book the huts you need and check road, weather and snow conditions before setting out.

From Mount Robert Road, ascend Pinchgut Track, cross the upper slopes to Bushline Hut and descend Paddys Track. This direction keeps the lake views ahead during the descent. Distance, ascent and time are those reported by Walk My World; allow extra time for breaks and changing conditions.

Robert Ridge Route ke Lake Angelus Hut

DOC: Advanced tramping track / Expert route

12.20 km 6 jam sekali jalan / 6 hr one way; up to 9 hr in heavy snow

Climb Pinchgut from the car park, then follow the poled Robert Ridge over Julius Summit toward Angelus Hut. Beyond Julius the terrain becomes sharp and rocky. Carry all your water; Angelus bookings are required year-round. Heavy snow can extend the journey to nine hours.
