Permits & Rules
DENR permit from the Mt. Pulag National Park Office (in Bokod or Kabayan) is required. Daily quota is limited. Registration must go through the official portal; foreign climbers require accompaniment by a licensed guide.
Hazards
Hypothermia and cold air at night (temperatures can drop below 5°C). Dew and slippery muddy trails. The Akiki trail is very steep (gradients up to 70°). Thick fog affects visibility. The summit is exposed to strong winds at dawn.

Description

Mount Pulag (2,922 m) is the highest peak in Luzon and the third-highest in the Philippines, situated at the triple border of Benguet, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya provinces. Known as the 'Playground of the Gods', it is famous for a breathtaking sea of clouds visible at sunrise and Milky Way views on clear nights. Sacred to the indigenous Ibaloi people, the mountain hosts over 528 plant species within a protected national park. The Ambangeg Trail is beginner-friendly; the Akiki 'Killer Trail' is for experienced hikers. Best season is November–March.

The most challenging route to Pulag's summit, starting from Barangay Duacan, Kabayan. Slopes up to 70 degrees, passing Eddet River camp, 'Marlboro Country' grasslands, and mossy forest. Typically done as Akiki ascent/Ambangeg descent traverse over 3 days. For experienced hikers only.

    Trek awal melewati sawah dan hutan. Penyeberangan sungai saat musim hujan bisa sulit.

    Jalur paling berat: kemiringan terjal, akar pohon, tali bantu di beberapa titik. Masuk hutan lumut.

    Marlboro Country → Puncak

    ↔ 3 km ↑ 422 m ⏱ 2–3 jam 2.922 mdpl

    Summit push dari Camp di Marlboro Country (2.500 mdpl). Padang terbuka dan angin kencang.

The most popular and beginner-friendly route to Pulag's summit, starting from Sitio Ambangeg in Bokod, Benguet. Passes pine forest, dwarf bamboo, and open mossy grassland. Hikers camp at Camp 2 (2,400 m) and summit pre-dawn for the iconic sea of clouds sunrise. DENR permits, guides, and porters available at Ambangeg ranger station.

    Padang rumput terbuka mulai terlihat. Angin mulai terasa lebih kencang.

    Camp 2 → Puncak (Summit Push)

    ↔ 3 km ↑ 522 m ⏱ 2–3 jam 2.922 mdpl

    Summit push biasa dimulai pukul 02.00–03.00 dini hari. Jalur berbatu dan terbuka, angin kencang.
