Description

Mount Pinatubo (1,486 m) is an active stratovolcano on the border of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga provinces in Luzon, Philippines. Its cataclysmic June 1991 eruption — one of the largest of the 20th century — ejected millions of tonnes of volcanic ash that temporarily cooled global temperatures and blanketed the surrounding landscape in lahar. From this devastation emerged a stunning blue-green crater lake now considered one of the Philippines' most spectacular trekking destinations. The adventure begins with a 1.5-hour 4x4 off-road ride through the vast lahar canyon, followed by a mostly-flat 5.5 km hike to the crater lake, with a final steep 20-minute ascent to the crater rim.

Routes

Jalur Capas via Crow Valley — rute standar ke danau kawah

Mudah–Pemula — sebagian besar datar di atas lahar berbatu; 20 menit terakhir menanjak terjal ke tepi kawah
Total 6–8 jam pulang-pergi dari titik kumpul Santa Juliana (4x4 ~1,5 jam PP + trekking ~3–4 jam PP)

The official and only public trekking route on Mount Pinatubo, starting from the registration point in Santa Juliana, Capas, Tarlac. The adventure begins with a roughly 1.5-hour 4x4 jeep off-road ride through the dramatic lahar canyon — claimed to be the world's largest lahar gorge — crossing short rivers and passing the 'Toblerone Hills' (sharp rock spires formed from hardened lahar). After parking the 4x4 at basecamp, the trek covers ~5.5 km across mostly flat rocky lahar terrain, occasionally crossing streams, with a final steep 20-minute climb to the crater rim. The reward: a blue-green turquoise crater lake formed after the 1991 eruption, encircled by towering crater walls.
