Description

Mount Olympus (2,432 m / 7,980 ft) is the highest peak of the Olympic Mountains in Olympic National Park, Washington. Although modest in elevation, it is heavily glaciated — including the Blue Glacier and Hoh Glacier — because of the enormous precipitation the range wrings from the Pacific. The classic route demands a long approach up the Hoh River Trail (about 27 km) through the Hoh Rain Forest to Glacier Meadows, then a crossing of the Blue Glacier and Snow Dome before a short, exposed rock scramble to the summit. It is typically a 3–5 day expedition blending forest trekking, roped glacier travel, and a bit of rock climbing. The first recorded ascent was in 1907. Because of its remoteness and crevasse hazards, many climbers use guides or experienced teams, and a wilderness permit is required for overnight trips.

Routes

Blue Glacier Route (via Hoh River Trail)

Berat (gletser + scramble batu; alpine grade sedang)
3–5 hari pulang-pergi

Rute pendakian standar.

Hoh River approach trek (tanpa summit)

Sedang (trekking hutan)
2–3 hari pulang-pergi

Banyak pendaki menempuh jalur pendekatan Hoh River hingga Glacier Meadows atau tepi Blue Glacier tanpa berupaya ke puncak—pilihan populer untuk menikmati hutan hujan Hoh dan panorama gletser tanpa perlu perjalanan gletser teknis.

Climbing Experiences

Climbing Mount Olympus is typically a 3–5 day expedition that opens with a long trek up the Hoh River Trail through the Hoh Rain Forest, continues with roped travel across the Blue Glacier and Snow Dome, and finishes with a short, exposed rock scramble to the summit. Trip reports highlight the lush rainforest, the sweeping glaciers, the crevasse hazards, and the long remote approach. The videos below document the Blue Glacier route and the Hoh approach.
