Description

Mount Ololokwe, known to the Samburu as Ol Doinyo Sabache, is an iconic flat-topped table mountain in Samburu County, northern Kenya, rising to roughly 1,853 metres. Its sheer cliffs tower over the Ewaso Ng'iro plains, making it an unmistakable landmark near the Samburu National Reserve and the Namunyak Conservancy. The mountain is sacred to the Samburu people and hosts traditional ceremonies and rain prayers. The standard route starts from Sabache Camp and climbs sandy, steep slopes for about 3–4 hours to a flat, wooded summit with sweeping views toward the Matthews Range. Many hikers set off before dawn to reach the top for sunrise, where the nights are windy and cold. Given the remote, arid setting, the ascent is usually done with a local guide.
