Description

Mount Nyangani (formerly Inyangani, ~2,592 m) is Zimbabwe's highest mountain, rising within Nyanga National Park in the Eastern Highlands about 110 km northeast of Mutare. Its summit is built of a hard dolerite sill and sandstone (not volcanic), with slopes cloaked in grassland and heath and evergreen forest on the wetter eastern flank. The Tourist Path from the west typically reaches the summit beacon in about 3 hours for an average-fit hiker, following the upper Nyamuziwa River before crossing the summit plateau. Though not technically hard, the mountain is notoriously dangerous because weather can switch from clear to thick fog within minutes; several hikers have been lost or died after losing the path. Nyangani also carries deep myth and spiritual meaning for local communities. Guides advise against climbing after midday and require registration at the park office.

Routes

Air Terjun Nyamuziwa & dataran puncak

Mudah–sedang
1 hari (variasi)

A day-hike variation in the same area: visit Nyamuziwa Falls near the trailhead, then explore the grassy summit plateau. Good for those wanting the scenery without pushing for the summit, but with the same weather risk.

The main ~4.5 km path from the official car park (via Circular Drive) to the 2,592 m summit beacon. It climbs along the upper Nyamuziwa River then crosses the grassy summit plateau. Not technically hard, but register at the park office, start early and descend before the afternoon mist.
