Description
Mount Moco (Morro do Môco, 2,620 m) is the highest peak in Angola, rising in Huambo Province about 70 km west of the city of Huambo. Named one of Angola's 'Seven Wonders' in 2014, the mountain stands out for its dramatic scenery, cool climate unusual for the region, and exceptional biodiversity. The Serra do Môco is a BirdLife International Important Bird Area (IBA) with roughly 233 bird species recorded — many endemic to the Angolan Highlands, such as Monteiro's bushshrike and the grey-striped francolin. The hike begins from quiet Kanjonde village (reached by vehicle from Huambo) after obtaining permission from the local Soba chief. A steep red-dirt trail with no technical sections climbs through Afroalpine grassland, branching Afromontane forest, and rocky ridges to a summit offering a 360° panorama over the Huambo basin. Other activities include birdwatching, rappelling, and paragliding. Best season is May–September when skies are clear and nights are refreshingly cool.

Routes
Rute Kanjonde – Puncak & Monte Loizunga (rute lanjutan)
Berat (meliputi dua puncak tinggi, total jarak lebih panjang, medan terbuka bisa berangin)A route variation combining the ascent of Morro do Môco (2,620 m) with Monte Loizunga (2,574 m), a secondary summit on the Serra do Môco ridge. After reaching Morro do Môco via the standard Kanjonde route, hikers continue to Monte Loizunga along an open ridge with panoramic views. Suitable for experienced hikers who want to maximise their time in the Serra do Môco area. This route is documented by Spectacular Mountains in their trip report.
SourceRute Kanjonde – Puncak Morro do Môco (jalur utama)
Sedang (jalur tanah merah curam, non-teknis; beberapa bagian berumput tinggi dan berbatu; kondisi licin saat basah)The standard route used by virtually all hikers on Mount Moco. Starting from Kanjonde village (reached by vehicle from Huambo, ~70 km) after obtaining permission from the Soba (village chief) for about EUR 11. The red-dirt trail of ~6 km one-way climbs the ridge through highland grassland interspersed with remnant Afromontane forest. The upper section grows rockier before opening onto a flat summit with a 360° panorama over the Huambo basin. A local guide is available in Kanjonde and recommended, as the path is easy to lose in the tall grass.
