Description

Mount Lofty is the highest point in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges, rising about 710–727 m above sea level roughly 15 km east of central Adelaide, within Cleland National Park in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Its summit — marked by an obelisk/beacon and a visitor centre — offers sweeping panoramas over the city of Adelaide and the coastal plains to the west and the Piccadilly Valley to the east. It is one of Adelaide's most popular hiking destinations: many walkers climb it from Waterfall Gully on a steep track that passes a waterfall, while cyclists ascend the old Mount Barker Road. In winter, hail and sleet are common at the summit, with occasional light dustings of snow — a rarity in Australia. The surrounding reserve is rich in native bushland and wildlife, with Cleland Wildlife Park on its slopes.

Routes

Mount Lofty Summit loop singkat

Mudah
~30–60 menit (jalan pendek dari parkir puncak)

A relaxed option for those who drive to the summit area: a short walk around Mount Lofty Summit with connecting tracks toward Cleland, giving the city viewpoint without a long climb. Good for families and short visits.

Waterfall Gully ke Mount Lofty Summit

Sedang (tanjakan berbatu terus-menerus)
~2–3 jam pulang-pergi (sekitar 7,8 km PP, tanjakan ~500 m)

The most popular ascent of Mount Lofty: starting at the Waterfall Gully car park past First Falls, then climbing steadily for about 3.9 km through native bushland to the summit. At the top are an obelisk, a visitor centre and sweeping panoramas over Adelaide and the coast. It is fairly demanding due to the relentless gradient; bring water and good footwear.
