Description

Mount Lidgbird (~777 m) is one of the two dramatic peaks at the southern tip of Lord Howe Island, an Australian territory in the Tasman Sea inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It rises just north of the slightly higher Mount Gower (875 m), separated by the saddle at the head of Erskine Valley. Unlike Mount Gower with its popular guided climb, the actual summit of Lidgbird is an exposed, technical basalt wall that is rarely ascended. The usual objective for visitors is the steep track to Goat House Cave, a cave on the northern flank at around 250 m that offers sweeping views of the lagoon and island. Together with Gower and Ball's Pyramid, Lidgbird forms Lord Howe's iconic skyline, born of the eroded remnant of a shield volcano millions of years old.

Sasaran jalan kaki paling lazim di Mount Lidgbird: jalur menanjak tajam ke Goat House Cave, gua di dinding utara pada ketinggian sekitar 250 m. Beberapa bagian dilengkapi tali/rantai bantu dan menuntut kehati-hatian di tepi jurang, tetapi imbalannya panorama laguna Lord Howe dan Mount Gower. Bukan jalur ke puncak sejati.
