Description
Mount Kwaraha (Swahili: Mlima Kwaraa) is a granite inselberg rising to about 2,415 m in central Tanzania, roughly 5 km east of the town of Babati in Manyara Region. Its slopes are cloaked in mist forest above about 1,800 m and protected within the roughly 54 km² Ufiome Forest Reserve. The mountain is an important water tower: its springs and streams flow west into Lake Babati and east into the Tarangire River. The forest is home to small numbers of elephants and buffalo and large numbers of birds and monkeys, with a variety of trees and medicinal plants. For hikers, Kwaraha offers a walk friendly to both beginners and experienced trekkers: soon after setting off you are rewarded with a view over Lake Babati, and the higher you climb the more spectacular the panorama over the lake and forests. Ascents are usually made with a local guide from Babati.
