- Difficulty
Description
Mount Koroyanitu (also called Mount Evans; its summit trek is marketed as Mt. Batilamu) is a prominent peak of the Evans Ranges on Viti Levu, Fiji, rising to 1,195 m between Nadi and Lautoka. According to English Wikipedia it is Fiji's third-highest peak, sitting within the community-managed Koroyanitu National Heritage Park run from Abaca village. The signature outing is a steep heritage trek from Abaca to the Batilamu summit — roughly 3–4 hours up — with sweeping views over western Viti Levu and the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. Hikers can go up and back in a day or stay overnight in the summit trekking hut for sunset and sunrise; shorter, beginner-friendly waterfall trails (Tunutunu and Savu-i-One) branch from the same visitor centre. A modest park entry fee and a local guide are standard, and the area is also an Important Bird Area protecting rare ground-doves and parrots.

Pemula–MenengahTwo shorter, beginner-friendly trails from the Abaca Visitor Centre through Fijian rainforest to waterfalls for a swim. A good lower-effort alternative or warm-up before the Batilamu summit trek.

Menantang / curam (Tourism Fiji)The signature route to the summit: a steep climb from Abaca village through the rainforest of Koroyanitu National Heritage Park. Tourism Fiji lists ~4 hours one-way; local operators describe about a 3-hour ascent. It can be done as a day return or as an overnight, sleeping in the summit trekking hut (Mt. Batilamu Lodge, ~10 shared bunks with basic cookware) for sunset and sunrise over Nadi/Lautoka and the Mamanuca–Yasawa islands. The trek is village-guided from Abaca; a park entry fee of ~FJD 20–30 per person applies.

Vlogs and trip reports describe a steep climb through rainforest to a summit hut, with sweeping views over the Nadi–Lautoka valley and the Mamanuca–Yasawa islands. Many highlight the cultural dimension: village-guided trekking, a park entry fee, and the option of an overnight stay for sunset and sunrise. Some accounts also mention waterfalls you can stop at to swim and a track that turns slippery when wet.
