Description

Mount Korbu, at 2,183 metres, is the second-highest mountain in Peninsular Malaysia (only ~4 m below Tahan) and the highest point of the Titiwangsa Mountains, in Perak's Kinta District near Ipoh. The climb crosses dense montane rainforest and requires good fitness, forestry permits, and a guide.

Routes

KORGA — kombo Korbu + Gayong via Kem Seroja (Empangan Ulu Kinta)

Berat — ~15 km, tali & tangga, segmen curam Chuban–Botak; wajib dua izin (empangan + Jabatan Perhutanan) dan panduan
3 hari 2 malam (dorongan puncak ~13–18 jam pada hari kedua)

A popular combo route from the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam (Ulu Kinta, ~291 m). Day 1 is a 3–4 hour climb to Kem Seroja (~773 m) with good river access; Day 2 departs around 2am to reach the Korbu summit and cross over to Mount Gayong before returning to Seroja (13–18 hours); Day 3 descends in 2.5–3.5 hours. Water is available at Kem Seroja, Kem Kijang (~1,095 m) and the last water point (~1,503 m). Two permits (dam and Forestry Department, applied ~2 weeks ahead) and a mandatory local guide are required.

Via Ulu Geruntum (Gopeng)

Berat — hutan hujan pegunungan, jalur berlumpur, tali & tanjakan curam, navigasi menantang
3–4 hari pulang-pergi

The classic forest approach from the Gopeng side of Perak via Ulu Geruntum. This long, muddy route is usually combined with an ascent of Mount Gayong (the 'KORGA' package) over several days. Hikers pass rivers, water points and roped sections before reaching the summit ridge. A local guide and permit are mandatory; leeches, rain and navigation are the main challenges.

Mount Korbu (2,183 m) in the Titiwangsa Range, Perak — the peninsula's second highest — is usually climbed together with Mount Gayong (the 'KORGA' combo) over several days through dense montane rainforest. The trip reports and video vlogs below highlight muddy trails, ropes and ladders, leeches, water points, Kem Seroja, and challenging navigation between the Korbu and Gayong summits.
