Description
Mount Korab (2,764 m) is the highest peak of both Albania and North Macedonia — the only mountain in the world that is simultaneously the highest point of two different countries. Located on the border between both countries within the Korab Mountains, part of the Dinaric Alps system, it is known as Maja Korabit in Albanian and Кораб (Korab) in Macedonian. The most popular and accessible hiking route departs from Radusha village on the North Macedonian side, passing through the spectacular Mavrovo National Park area. The route is remote and challenging compared to most European peaks, with very limited infrastructure and almost no phone signal — offering an authentic adventure experience increasingly rare in Europe. From the summit, views span the Dinaric Alps, northern Albanian highlands, and on clear days part of the Adriatic horizon.
Routes
Via Radusha — Rute Utama dari Makedonia Utara
Berat; jalur terpencil, beda tinggi besar, infrastruktur nihil, navigasi mandiriThe most popular and best-documented route to Korab starts from Radusha village (~1,100 m) within Mavrovo National Park, North Macedonia. From the village, the trail ascends through Balkan mountain forest, then enters open alpine meadows with views over the Dinaric Alps chain. The upper section is entirely above the treeline with rocky trail leading to the Albania–North Macedonia border ridge, then traversing the ridge to the 2,764 m summit. There are no huts, minimal trail markers, and almost no phone signal — navigation by GPS or physical map is strongly recommended. Carry all water as reliable water sources above treeline are scarce.

Climbing Experiences
Korab is a rare and deeply rewarding climb in the least-visited part of the Balkans. Unlike other European peaks, there is no public transport to the trailhead, no huts on the route, and almost no phone signal — making it a genuine adventure. The route from Radusha (North Macedonia) is the most commonly used: about 4–6 hours up from the village starting at roughly 1,100 m elevation, crossing alpine meadows and rocky slopes before reaching the summit. Hikers strongly recommend bringing all water and food, solid hiking boots, and a compass/GPS. Weather can change very rapidly. The Albanian approach from Radomirë village is even longer and more remote. The experience at the summit — standing on the rooftop of two countries simultaneously — is described as an unforgettable moment.
